Coimbatore:

Five minor girls, hailing from Odisha, have been rescued from a textile mill on the city outskirts where they were reportedly kept as bonded labourers, said police on Sunday.

A police team from Odisha had reached here following a complaint from a woman in Kandhamal in the state that her daughter was brought here and kept as bonded labourer at a mill near Sulur.

With the assistance of local police, the team led by Inspector Vaidehi searched the mill at Pallapalayam last night and found five girls, below 14 years, including the woman’s daughter, allegedly working there as bonded labourers.

The rescued girls were taken to their native village early on Sunday, they said.
