New Delhi:
India's Index of Industrial Production in October 2016 stood at 178.0, witnessing a fall of 1.9 % in comparison to October 2015.
The drop in industrial output is being attributed to rubber insulated cables, woollen carpets and leather garments.
Data released by the statistics office on Friday displayed a 2.4% decline in manufacturing production in October along with a 1.1% fall in mining output.
Further, the manufacturing sector holds the highest weight in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). The pace of electricity generation witnessed improvement of 1.1%.
Mining output fell 0.2% in the first seven months of 2016-17 whereas manufacturing contracted by 1%.
In September IIP reading was revised to 0.67% increase in comparison with the 0.7% rise which had been reported earlier.
Capital goods output too fell 25.9% in October.
