Sachin Tendulkar will not campaign for Congress in MP: Sources

According to reports, Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar on Saturday rejected the proposal to campaign for the Congress in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.

Earlier, reports suggested that Sachin Tendulkar, who was nominated as a Rajya Sabha member by the ruling UPA government last year, has agreed to campaign for the party in MP.

Tendulkar was nominated as a Rajya Sabha member by the ruling UPA government, might campaign for the Congress party in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the Assembly polls.

Union Minister and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia had said that he would request Sachin to campaign for the Congress party in the state.

The Congress party wants to cash in on Sachin’s popularity amongst the one crore youth in the state Assembly polls.

Sachin will retire from International cricket after his 200th Test match in Mumbai scheduled next month.

The state, having a total of 230 seats, will go to polls on November 25.

Sachin is the first active sportsperson and cricketer to have been nominated to the Rajya Sabha on June 3, 2012 under the Prominent Citizens Quota.

After taking oath as Rajya Sabha MP, Sachin had said he would want to contribute to not just cricket, but all the sports in India. "I need help from my fellow MPs. I would be happy being remembered as an MP who did something for the development of all sports and not just cricket," Sachin said.
