Bangalore:

BJP said the Centre's decision to raise the quota of subsidised cooking gas from 9 to 12 cylinders per household in a year was out "fear" of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

"I would like to ask (Congress) whether the decision to cap subsidised LPG cylinder at six was decided by Sonia Gandhi and then increased to 12 by Rahul (Gandhi).

"The credit should go to Narendra Bhai Modi because they did this out of Modi's fear," BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters.

The government announced the rise in LPG cap today as demanded by Rahul Gandhi even as it suspended operation of UPA's game-changer' scheme to pay LPG subsidy in cash to consumers directly.
