An Australian model has posted a nude selfie on Instagram protesting the government's clearance to the Indian conglomerate Adani group's proposed USD 15.5 billion coal mine and rail infrastructure project, which has sparked protests from green groups.
In a novel way of protest, 25-year-old Robyn Lawley posted her pictures which showed the words "stop coal mining" written on her stomach.
The Carmichael coal mine and rail infrastructure project is based in the Galilee Basin in central Queensland.
She said in her caption, "Woke up this morning to find out that our Environmental minister and the Abbott government have approved what will be the biggest mine of Australia.... I'm shocked and feel powerless."
Lawley then explained that millions of tonnes of seabed will have to be dredged and dumped in the World Heritage Area to make way for port expansions to service the mine.
On her facebook page, she wrote: "Coal Has No Future and this Mine that will cause irrevocably damage, it is not even Australian owned."
"Instead of focusing on renewable energy such as Germany who mainly runs from solar now we've gone backwardS... this isn't just our country we are apart of a world and it saddens me that climate change is not even acknowledge by our own Prime Minister, she added.
"we can create wealth by other means not by destroying this beautiful country... Will future generations even see its beauty, I wonder." Lawly wrote.
It is estimated the project will provide electricity for up to 100 million people in India.
India's Adani Mining yesterday won the Australian the government's approval for the 16.5 billion Aus dollar (USD 15.5 billion) coal mine and rail project in Queensland with 36 strict conditions meant to protect the environment.
"After undertaking a thorough assessment and consideration under national environment law, I have approved the Carmichael coal mine and rail infrastructure project, subject to 36 strict conditions," the environment minister Greg Hunt had said.
