New Delhi:

Union Government is planning an unprecedented hike in challan amount charged for violation of traffic rules. According to the Union Ministry for Road and Transport, the imposing of enhanced penalties will act as a "deterrent to road rage and help in improving the traffic conditions”.

But, will a hike in fine and punishment alone be able to bring any difference? News Nation in its exclusive report discovered that the policemen who are responsible for maintaining the law and order are themselves mutilating them.

Several cops were caught on camera without head gears, while some were spotted riding bikes with missing number plates on the roads in Uttar Pradesh.

Shockingly, they don’t even care to stop at red lights! It is questionable that if the law-keeper himself becomes the law breaker then what will the common people do?

First picture of the story is a satire on the law and order scenario of Uttar Pradesh. Here, a person is riding a bike with not 1, 2 or 3 but 4 pillions at a time. The Vehicle ID of motorcycle is UP15 AB 3977, flouting traffic rules at extreme magnitude?

In the picture the policeman is committing 3 crimes at a time 1) No helmet on riders head, 2) Overload, 3) helmet on pillion riders’ head.

This cop is not only putting his life in danger but actually putting his family members’ at risk too. How insensitive?

In the picture above, the way this personnel has written ‘Police’ on his number plate in place of vehicle number is a sheer demonstration of bullying act of UP police.

The picture shows him clearly committing at least two crimes simultaneously- 1. Riding a two-wheeler without helmet, 2) No number on the front plate, in fact he has written ‘Police’ in place of vehicle number to usher-in his arrival.

However, the rear number plate displays a vehicle ID no. as UP 14 BD 4192.

In the above picture , a traffic police personnel in his duty uniform is riding a bike without helmet. A traffic police official is the one who usually issues challan.

Please note that the picture is captured in Police Line area of Ghaziabad where all the highly ranked officials of police department make frequent visits, this shows that even the senior officers don’t care to check the security conditions.

The vehicle ID as displayed on rear no plate is DL 5S BD 9237.

In above picture, a policeman is riding a motor cycle with a pillion rider and as usual none of them bothers to put a helmet. The bike number plate displays vehicle no. HR30 B 4738.

Similarly, in below pictures with vehicle number: UP15 AD 9075 and UP 14 AG 265, policemen are found to be riding motorcycles without helmet.

The report brings to the fore, questions not only over the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh but displays the indiscipline of Uttar Pradesh Police.

Former Police Commissioner of Delhi TR Kakkar says, “When a cop violates law, he is aware that he is committing a crime, this sends a very bad message in public. Department should train the personnel to act in discipline”.

When informed about these incidents, the people of UP seemed afraid but outraged at the same time. Sajal Sharma, a CA student from Ghaziabad says “these cops themselves don’t follow the traffic rules, what PM Modi can do alone?”

Alpana Chauhan a PR professional says “I have seen three policemen on a single two-wheeler many a times; they just don’t adhere to the rules”.

This report lays emphasis on other side of our law-keepers which usually goes unnoticed either owing to the intimidation posed by them or to our apathy.

However, it also puts a question mark on this entire mechanism of UP police as the overseer of law.

Now, the last but not the least question remains – after seeing the truth in the pictures, will Akhilesh Yadav government act against these policemen? Will they ever be fined or suspended? Or the practice will go on forever?
