Delhi government to install CCTV cameras in buses

The Delhi government is planning to install close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in its buses in the national capital in order to enhance the security of women.

According to reports, the government is planning to install the cameras in its fleets of cluster buses plying in the national capital, which are operated by the Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System. At present, there are 1,324 such buses plying on the roads.

Earlier, the Delhi Transport Authority (DTC) had installed CCTV cameras in 200 DTC buses, with three cameras installed per bus.

The DTC had also sought Rs 103 crore from the Centre to install the CCTV cameras in its entire fleet, which consists of around 4,900 buses. The DTC also started providing two guards on buses operating at night.
