Indore:

Thirteen days after losing their beloved pet, a mourning family served lunch to 500 odd people, following the traditional Hindu custom of organising such meals exactly two weeks after the death of their loved ones.

“I have two sons. My wife and I brought up our German Shepherd Pinky like a daughter with great warmth as she was an integral part of our family. After getting paralysed seven months ago, she die on May 14,” Pappu Chauhan, a resident of Rukmani Nagar locality told PTI.

“We performed her last rites as per Hindu tradition (Popularly known as “terhi” in Hindi) Even my son got his head tonsured. People offered floral tributes to Pinki’s picture today before breaking bread,” he said.

He said that the veterinarian treating Pinki threw up his hands after her health failed to improve and asked them to take away her life with the help of an injection.

“However, we turned down his advice,” said Chouhan, who is in the catering business.

He said that his family took care of their pet Pinki, with great devotion for seven months adding that her death has cast a pall of gloom over their residence.
