Ever tried Litti Choka on the streets of Delhi? It is amazing isn’t it? Almost every person has tasted it and enjoyed it with his/her friends.

It is made up of sattu and chokha is made of smashed potatoes, tomatoes, and brinjals.

But do you know which state this amazing cuisine belongs to? Well, it is none other than Bihar which earns laurels in several other foods as well.

While Litti Choka is a speciality of Bihar, the staple foods of Bihar is rice, roti, dal, chawal, sabzi and achar.

All the traditional cooking is done in mustard oil. People also prefer to eat Khichdi which constitutes the mid-day meal for most Hindu Biharis on Saturdays.

Another significant dish which people from Bihar prefer include Chitba and Pitthow which are prepared basically from rice.

Kadhi bari is another popular favorite food item made of besan (gram flour) that are cooked in a spicy gravy of yogurt. This dish goes very well with plain rice.

Talking about sweets, Bihar offers large variety of sweet delicacies like Anarasa, Belgrami, Chena Murki, Motichoor ke Ladoo, Kala Jamun, Kesaria Peda, Khaja,Khurma, Khubi ki Lai, Laktho, Parwal ki Mithai, Pua & Mal Pua, Thekua, Murabba,  Tilkut, Chiwra, Dhuska, Litti, Makhana and Sattu.

Veg and non-veg both food habits constitute their meal.

In Bihar people enjoy both veg and non-veg dishes and also enjoy fish curries which is cooked in a spicy mustard gravy known as "MACHAK JHOR”.

The region has a strong influence from Mughalai cuisine in eastern Uttar Pradesh and western bihar which resulted in development of bhojpuri cuisine with Bihari flavour.

Some foods which are also part of Bihar's unique confluence of cultures include Biharee Kabab, Shami Kabab, Nargisi Kufte, Shabdeg, Yakhnee Biryanee, Motton Biryani, Shaljum Gosht, Baqer Khani, Kuleecha, Naan Rootee, Sawee ka Zarda, Qemamee Sawee, Gajar ka Halwa, Ande ka Zfrani Halwa etc.
