Islamabad:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has stepped up a gear in preparations for the much hyped up T20 Pakistan Super League with former greats Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja being asked to become brand ambassadors for the event.

A top PCB official told PTI on Saturday that both the former captains were keen to promote the PSL in their capacity as former players and now as well-known media personalities but were checking their schedule to take out time for the PSL.

Both have expressed their desire to promote the PSL but being international commentators and experts they have prior commitments due to which they are checking their schedules, the official said.

The PSL which has been postponed twice before is due to be held in Doha, Qatar from 4 to 24 February next year. The official said the idea behind appointing former greats as brand ambassadors was to encourage top foreign players, sponsors and broadcasters to be part of the even and also to market it globally.

The foreign players who have expressed interest in the league include Sri Lanka s Ajantha Mendis Thisara Perrara, West Indians Sunil Narine, Dwayne Smith, Samuel Badree,  New Zealand’s James Franklin, South Africa’s Richard Levi and others like Robin Petersen and Tim Bresnan.
