New Delhi:

Prem is back! He is royal, dramatic and a charmer in Sooraj Barjatya’s latest offering ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’. The film also marks Salman Khan’s reunion with ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ director Sooraj Barjatya after 1999.

There are very few films which offer a little extra in everything and then leave you with a desire to get some more of it; ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is one of them. It keeps you on the edge with almost every sequence.

Be it Salman’s introduction as ‘Prem’, core family issues of prince Vijay (Salman Khan) or Maithili’s chemistry with the prince; there is barely any segment where viewers seem to be disengaged.

Sooraj Barjatya’s royal serving presents Salman Khan in a reenergized charismatic character he had developed with Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo packs Salman’s royal journey from being good to great. He plays double role in this one and uses his simplistic approach to reunite dissipated family of a royal king.

ALERT! SPOILER AHEAD

The story of the film revolves around Prem’s attempt to reunite prince Vijay with his siblings. No it’s not that simple! There is a reason behind it.

Prince Vijay becomes a victim of conspiracy by brother Niranjan (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and almost gets killed four days before coronation. Vijay’s Diwan (Anupam Kher) replaces him with Prem to find the betrayer and conspirator.

Amid this Prem meets Maithili (Vijay’s fiancée). While unfolding Prem in Vijay, she falls in love with him and hooks along to reunite his husband with his family. What happens next is a tale of expected events but assures a complete power packed drama till last frame.

Sonam Kapoor’s character however struggles to gel with the pace and level of performance by Salman Khan and Anupam Kher. She is beautiful, elegant, and an eye grabber yet seems left out at several occasions.

Anupam Kher’s character is no different from the one he is famous for; perfect comedy of humour in serious acts with brilliant expressions.

SWORD FIGHTING

Lets also mention something about sword fighting, which almost bagged Neil Nitin Mukesh a role in famous English TV series ‘Game of Thrones’. From pin point edges to pokey moves, the love and hatred gets slashed with it. Don’t expect something of top notch but Sooraj Barjatya’s treatment to keep it simple and entertaining is magnificent.

Neil’s character is somehow covered under the scabbard; I think that’s a way to keep Salman ruling the script.

Swara Bhaskar on the other hand goes a step forward in terms of performance. Within minutes of screenplay she promises to be at her best in terms of expressions.

Other small characters that prove to be good are played by Deepak Dobriyal, Armaan Kohli and Aashika Bhatia.

MUSIC

Songs play a major part in this one. For Sooraj Barjatya a song is not something made of just music, instead it is a tale on musical notes. In ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ almost every single track falls on this ideology.

While they perfectly gel with the screenplay, it would still be difficult for many to stick to iPods. Spare title track and Prem Leela, everything else will fade out soon.

Final verdict: If you have loved Sooraj Barjatya’s flavor in ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ and ‘Maine Pyaar Kia’ then this one will surely blow your mind with extra love. Salman fans will anyway love it.
