Government approves metro rail projects for Indore, Bhopal, Kanpur, Agra, Delhi

New Delhi:

The Union Finance Ministry recently has given in-principle approval for proposed metro projects in Indore, Bhopal, Kanpur, Agra and Delhi under the New Metro Policy.

The projects are estimated to cost Rs 1.07 lakh crore, according to senior central and state government officials.

Besides these five projects, the Delhi-Meerut corridor of the proposed Rapid Rail Transit System worth Rs 32,000 crore also got the in-principle approval from the Finance Ministry.

According to an official, these projects will go to the finance ministry’s Public Investment Board (PIB) for approval, adding the projects will go to the Union cabinet, after the PIB clearance.

The two corridors of the Kanpur metro rail project are 32.38km long which will be completed at the cost of Rs 16,192 crore. The Agra stretch of the metro, which will also have two corridors, is 30km and the completion cost is Rs 12,253 crore. While the proposed length of the Indore project is 104.25km with an estimated cost of Rs 26,762 crore, the Bhopal metro is 95.03km long and the estimated to completed at the cost Rs 22,504.25, according to a senior official of the state urban development department.
