New Delhi:
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has recovered Rs 15.75 crore old 1000 and 500 Rs notes in a raid at premises near Jhandewalan metro station.
Acting on intelligence reports, the Delhi Zonal Unit of DRI on Sunday recovered Specified Bank notes (old Rs1000 and Rs 5000 currency notes) of face value of Rs 15.75 crore on 8th and 9th of April, 2017.
The DRI will file a complaint in the Court against ten persons, further investigation is going on into the matter.
According to Section 7 of the newly enacted Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Act, 2017, whoever contravenes the provisions of Section 5 of the Act shall be punishable with fine which may extend to 10 thousand rupees or five times the amount of the face value of the specified bank notes involved in the contravention, whichever is higher. In this case, the total amount of fine may go up to Rs 78.75 crore.
