'Sachin: A Billion Dreams' which happens to be the biopic of renowned cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, has been one the most awaited movies of the year and was expected to create a storm at the box office.

High expectations were quite obvious from the movie as it not just features the 'God of Cricket' Sachin Tendulkar but also chronicles his journey from his childhood to becoming the 'Baahubali' of the world of cricket.

And as expected the sports docu-drama 'Sachin: A Billion Dreams' has got an impressive start at the box office and went on to create a history with a collection of Rs 8.40 crore on its day of release.

Interestingly, Sachin's biopic, being a docu-drama, has reportedly got highest opening ever recorded in this genre.

Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh took it to micro-blogging site Twitter to share first day collections of the movie. He wrote, "Considering it's a docu-drama, #SachinABillionDreams opens IMPRESSIVELY... Fri ₹ 8.40 cr. India biz [Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, English]".


According to the media reports, 'Sachin: A Billion Dreams' witnesses an 80% to 90% occupancy in multiplexes where as the single-screen theatres in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities went house-full by evening on Friday.

The media reports also sugges that the movie is expected to do a good business in the weekend as well given that the 'Baahubali 2' magic has finally faded away and the  emotional story of Sachin Tendulkar will replace the hysteria of SS Rajamouli's directorial.

Helmed by James Erskine, 'Sachin: A Billion Dreams' was released on May 26 across 2400 screens in India and 400 screens overseas.
