Sonu Nigam controversy: High Court says Azaan is integral part of Islam and not Loudspeakers

Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam stoked a controversy over early morning Azaan (mosque prayer) while dubbing it as cacophonous and intimidation in nature. But according to an Enlish daili is said that the Punjab and Haryana high court has said that Azaan (mosque prayer) is an important part of Islam  is undoubtedly an integral part of Islam but it does not necessarily have to be blared through loudspeakers.

Justice Bedi has been quoted as saying: “A fair interpretation of the words used by respondent no 4 (Nigam) clearly indicates that the word ‘gundagardi’ in tweet no 4 is not addressed in the context of Azaan but the use of loudspeakers and amplifiers.”

The singer wrote on social media that despite being not a Muslim, he has to be woken up early morning, and questioned that when this forced religiousness would end in the country.

The petition was filed by Aas Mohammad of Sonepat in Haryana after he claimed that the singer’s tweets violated the Muslim community’s fundamental right and also hurt the religious sentiments of people.

He said that he should not be forced to hear this cacophonous sound. 

In his series of tweets, he said that he does not like misuse of electricity and loudspeakers, especial if a person does not have faith in that particular religion.

He dubbed the practice as intimidation in nature. 

The singer drew flak from his fans who replied to his tweets, saying that he should not speak against any faith in the manner which he did.
