New Delhi:

At least 30 people were killed as heavy rains wreaked havoc in different regions of Uttar Pradesh, an official said on Saturday.

Thundershowers are likely to continue at several places across the state, the MET official stated.

Five people were killed in Agra, four deaths were reported in Mainpuri, three each in Muzaffarnagar and Kasganj, two each in Meerut and Bareilly and one each in Kanpur Dehat, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Jhansi, Hapur, Jalaun, Rae Bareli and Jaunpur, the government spokesperson said, adding that 12 others were injured in different parts of the state.

Three deaths were confirmed from Saharanpur on Saturday, SP Saharanpur (Rural) Vidya Sagar Mishra said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered to launch relief and rescue work on war footing and directed district magistrate to provide monetary help immediately in the affected areas, as per rules, in cases of house collapse.

The chief minister warned the authorities that no complacency will be tolerated in relief works.

The MeT office said southwest monsoon was “active” over east Uttar Pradesh and “vigorous” over the western part of the state causing moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers at most places.
