New Delhi:

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is set to undergo a kidney transplant surgery on Saturday at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Jaitley, 65, was admitted to AIIMS on Friday evening and is scheduled to undergo a kidney transplant operation on Saturday.

The union finance minister has been suffering from a kidney ailment and has not been going to office since Monday. Due to kidney ailment he even did not take oath of office after being re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh last month.

The AIIMS officials not willing to be named said that all formalities for a kidney transplant have been completed.

“Union Minister Arun Jaitley was admitted at the hospital around 4:15 PM. All formalities between the donor and the recipient for kidney transplant have been done,” sources said.

“The union minister will be under doctor’s vigil for at least 10 days after the surgery,” the officials added.

Jaitley had to cancel his London visit next week for the annual economic dialogue next week.

On Thursday, the union minister confirmed that he is suffering from a kidney ailment and had said that he is receiving treatment.

"I am being treated for kidney related problems and certain infections that I have contracted. I am therefore currently working from controlled environment at home. The future course of my treatment would be determined by the doctors treating me," he tweeted.

Jaitley in 2015 had underwent a gastric bypass weight loss surgery.
