Rajasthan Police on Wednesday claimed to bust an international gang of skimmers and arrested three Romanian citizens from National capital Delhi in connection with at least 88 cases of ATM cloning in Jaipur.
The Jaipur Police claimed that the three arrested were accused of withdrawing Rs 27.32 lakh from bank accounts of 88 people by cloning their ATM cards.
The arrested Romanian citizens have been identified as Catanescu, 41, Ciobanu, 44, and Ducia Bogdan Nocolae. Police have also seized Rs 50 lakhs, five cloned ATM cards, a card reader, a spy camera, a microchip, a laptop, four masks, a cap, two passports and mobile phones from their possession.
Sanjay Agarwal, Commissioner of Police Jaipur, said, “We believe they might have duped more people.”
Explaining the modus operandi of the Romanian skimmers Agarwal said, “The three first reckied the area to identify ATM kiosks to target victims for ATM card cloning. After identifying the kiosks they would set up skimming devices and cameras in the morning and later in the evening would collect the skimming device and the cameras.”
“After making a clone of the ATM cards they would withdraw money from a different city,” added Agarwal.
