Banaras Hindu University student eve teased, beaten in varsity premises

A day after Banaras Hindu University (BHU) appointed woman guards for the first time, a student on Thursday alleged that she was eve teased and beaten by a fellow student in the varsity premises.

New Delhi :  

A day after Banaras Hindu University (BHU) appointed woman guards for the first time, a girl on Thursday alleged that she was eve teased and beaten by a postgraduate student in the varsity premises.

The victim has lodged a complaint with the Lanka police station.

“We have arrested the accused student,” said a senior police officer of Lanka police station.

He added that the victim is married and pursuing her masters in Social Science in BHU.

The police officer told News Nation that the victim told them that the accused, Shitla Prasad Gaur. He is also pursuing masters in the university.

The victim has alleged that Gaur eve teased her. On protesting she was beaten and her mobile phone was broken.

Police have registered an FIR under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 354 B — Any man who assaults any woman or abet such an act with the intention of disrobing her, 504 — intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, 506 — threat to cause death or grievous hurt, 427 — cause loss or damage to the amount of Rs 50 or upwards, 323 — voluntarily cause hurt.

Last month students in large numbers were protesting against the BHU administration after a student was eve teased by bike borne miscreants. The protest was followed by clash between students and police.
