New Delhi:

The Banaras Hindu University is mulling to relax hostel curfew hours in order to achieve parity with the boy’s hostel curfew timings.

The varsity is planning to extend the hostel outdoor timings for girls from 8 PM to 9:30 PM. The girls have been demanding to extend the hostel outdoor timings for a long time now.

Girls argued that the 10 PM deadline for boys was discriminatory and arbitrary. Girls at the hostel will also be provided a half-an-hour grace period under special circumstances.

If this proposal comes into effect, the timing for boys and girls would be relatively at par.

The classes in the university resumed on Tuesday after the vacation.

The varsity has seen a turmoil recently with female students protesting against rising eve-teasing incidents in the campus. The police had resorted to lathicharge against the protesting students.

After a lot of hue and cry, chief proctor of the university resigned from his place and a woman chief proctor succeeded him.
