In what looks like the case of extreme desperation, a 34-year-old woman science teacher in Chandigarh was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a minor boy who was taking tuition from her. The accused woman teacher was arrested after the victim’s parents informed Childline, a helpline service for children in distress.
“She was arrested yesterday on charges of sexually assaulting and exploiting the boy. She has been arrested under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO),” Sector 31 SHO Gurjit Kaur said.
According to the reports, the woman teacher and the victim were neighbours at Ram Darbar colony in Sector 31, Chandigarh. Owing to the fact that both the families knew each other, the victim and his sister started taking tuition from the accused teacher.
“The teacher requested the boy’s parents to send their daughter for tuition separately so that she could ‘focus’ on their son. The parents agreed but on the pretext of imparting him knowledge, she started luring the boy physically in the beginning of 2018. She also gave him a SIM card to stay in touch with her,” tan English daily quoted a Childline official as saying.
The parents of the 14-year-old victim stopped sending him for the tuition after his grades dropped. On this, the woman desperately urged them to send the boy again for tuitions. On Monday, she had called the parents to meet her at her house with the boy.
The teacher became abusive and locked up the boy in a room. She even told her husband to stay out of the matter. However, the parents managed to free the boy with help from neighbours.
But the drama didn’t end there and the woman followed them to their home and drank a cough syrup, in an attempt to commit suicide.
On this, the parents called the Childline and lodged a police complaint. The teacher was arrested and produced to court on Thursday. The court had sent her to a judicial custody.
