New Delhi:
Hours after giving birth to a baby girl, mother left her to die in a public toilet at Kanjurmarg suburb in Mumbai, police said on Monday.
However, the infant has been saved after providing prompt medical aid to her. She has now been kept in a child care centre, police added.
On June 9, a woman spotted the infant who went to the toilet. The face of the baby was in the toilet hole, police issued a statement. The woman then alerted her own family and police control room.

A police official said that the police immediately rushed to the spot and she was given urgent medical treatment. “After her health improved, we took the baby to Vatsalya Trust, where she could get proper care,” Senior Police Inspector Ajinath Satpute said. Decisions about her welfare will be taken by Child Welfare Committee, he said.
Police are still looking after the infant’s mother. However, an offence under section 315 of IPC (an act done with intent to prevent child being born alive or to cause it to die after birth) and section 317 of IPC (exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it) has been registered.
