World acclaimed sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik was hospitalized on Monday after he suffered injuries following an attack on him during the Konark Sand Art Festival in Odisha.

Pattnaik was attacked by an unidentified person. The artist has been admitted to the Puri district hospital.

According to reports, the accused had attempted to snatch Pattnaik’s wrist watch at the festival. Pattnaik is the brand ambassador of the five-day long International Sand Art Festival, which has been organized by the Odisha government’s tourism department. The festival is taking place near Sun Temple in Konark.

“The youth caught hold of my arm during a handshake and tried to snatch my wrist watch. When I tried to resist, he attacked me and disappeared into the crowd,” the artist said. “I could not find the youth. Even my students and friends tried to catch him, but failed,” he added.
