Amaravati:

Several people were seriously injured and some were feared dead as a truck ran into a crowd outside Yerpedu police station in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday afternoon.

A police officer from Chittoor said as per the preliminary information, at least 20 persons were run over by the wayward truck.

The victims were waiting outside the police station at Yerpedu to submit various applications when the driver of a passing truck lost control and ran over them.

Deputy Chief Minister N China Rajappa expressed shock over the incident. He spoke to the Tirupati Superintendent of Police and directed that the injured be extended necessary medical treatment, an official said in Amaravati.

Further details are awaited. 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

"Pained by the loss of lives due to an accident in AP’s Chittoor dist. Condolences to families of the deceased & prayers with the injured," his official twitter handle @PMO_India tweeted.
