Delhi police on Monday will produce Major Nikhil Handa before the Patiala House Court in connection with the brutal murder of his colleague and another Indian Army Major Amit Dwivedi's wife Shailja in Delhi. Earlier on Sunday, Major Handa was arrested by police from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut for allegedly killing Major Dwivedi’s wife.
After Handa’s arrest, police made startling revelations about the murder. It said that Major Handa was highly “obsessed” with Shailja and the two even had an affair since 2015. Handa killed Shailja after she denied his marriage proposal, the cops said on Sunday.
"When we checked call records, we found that there were numerous calls made from Major Handa's number to the Major Dwivedi's wife," DCP (West) Vijay Kumar said on Sunday.
"Major Handa pressurised the woman for marriage and was very obsessive towards her," he added.
Thirty-year-old Shailja Dwivedi, a former model, was found dead with her throat slit in Delhi Cantonment area on Saturday.
Shailja had gone for a physiotherapy session at the Army Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment at around 10 am. From the hospital, she went with Handa and around 1:30 pm, police found her body in a street in the Cantonment area.
Police had said that she was hit on head by a strong object and was allegedly run over by a car after slitting her throat to make the incident look like an accident.
