New Delhi :

BJP working president JP Nadda is all set to become party’s 14th president on Monday. According to sources, Nadda will file nominations for the national president's election at 10 am on January 20 and will be elected unopposed after 20 members of the electoral college will submit proposals supporting him. The party has also called a meet at the headquarters in the national capital which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Around 450 office bearers and party leaders – including veteran leader LK Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi - will be attending the meet.

The elevation of 59-year-old Nadda was almost certain after he was made the BJP working president in July last year, following Shah’s induction into the Union cabinet.

Nadda is a former Union minister and has decades of organisational experience. The BJP national council, the biggest organisational body of the party, is expected to meet after the February 8 Delhi Assembly polls to ratify the election of the new party president.

Nadda held organisational meetings with party workers

In the run-up to the 2019 general election, Nadda was in charge of the BJP’s campaign in Uttar Pradesh, politically the most important state where the saffron party convincingly defeated the formidable alliance of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) by winning 62 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats.

Nadda was a cabinet minister in the first Modi government between 2014 and 2019. He has also been a member of the BJP’s parliamentary board, the top decision-making body of the party.

Amit Shah had taken over as the party president in 2014 after Narendra Modi led it to power.

Weeks ahead of the assembly elections in the national capital, BJP’s working president JP Nadda held organisational meetings with party workers on Friday and said Delhi needs “development not advertisement”. Nadda told party workers to conduct door-to-door campaigns to expose the lies of the APP government led by Arvind Kejriwal.

“We will go door-to-door in Delhi to expose the injustice done by the Kejriwal government to the people of Delhi, the lies spoken to them and the scams committed by the government,” Nadda tweeted. “Delhi needs development not advertisement,” he said.
