Jyotiraditya Scindia To File Nomination For Rajya Sabha Polls, Here’s How Numbers Stand In Madhya Pradesh

New Delhi:

Former Union Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, who joined BJP recently, will file nomination papers on Friday for the March 26 Rajya Sabha polls from Madhya Pradesh. The BJP named Scindia as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh soon after he joined the saffron-bloc.

In Madhya Pradesh, three Rajya Sabha seats are falling vacant of which BJP is having 2 while Congress has one.

“Scindia ji will file the nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha polls after garlanding the statues of BJP leaders, including Deendayal Upadhyaya and Rajmata Scindia, around noon on Friday”, Madhya Pradesh BJP Media Cell in-charge Lokendra Parashar said.

With Kamal Nath government facing a grim future in Madhya Pradesh following the rebellion of 22 MLAs loyal to Scindia, a keen battle between BJP and Congress for Rajya Sabha polls is on cards.

Both Congress and BJP are set to win one seat each in the state, while the major fight appears to be for the third.

However, the Congress earlier looked to have an edge over BJP to win the third seat. Congress had 114 MLAs in the 228-member assembly and the party also enjoyed the support of four Independents, two BSP and one SP MLA.

In case the resignations of 22 rebel MLAs are accepted or they abstain from voting, the revised strength of the house will stand at 206, taking the Congress’ tally to 92 and BJP will have 107 MLAs of its own.

Scindia from BJP and Congress’ Digvijay Singh are expected to comfortably win in the polls as they are likely to be fielded for the seat, they are certain to win.
