Krishnamurthy Subramanian, an ISB Hyderabad professor has been appointed as the new Chief Economic Adviser for a period of three years by the government. Subramanian, the top-ranking IIT-IIM alumnus, is currently serving as an Associate professor of Finance and Executive Director for the Centre for Analytical Finance at the Indian School of Business. He holds a PhD degree from the Chicago Booth.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved for the appointment of Dr Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Associate Prof. and ED (CAF), ISB, Hyderabad, to the post of Chief Economic Adviser," according to a government notification released on Friday.

The development came months after the government on June 30 invited applications for the post of CEA, which had been lying vacant ever since Arvind Subramanian left the finance ministry earlier this year. Arvind was appointed as CEA on October 16, 2014 and quit the office after a four-year stint ahead of completion of his term.
Krishnamurthy has been shortlisted by a search committee headed by former Reserve Bank of India governor Bimal Jalan appointed by the finance ministry. Economic affairs secretary Subhash C Garg and B P Sharma, secretary, department of personnel training are also members of the selection panel.
