Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday said it will ensure that nobody is harassed because of their religion, according to Muslim outfit Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, which met the Union Home Minister. A joint delegation of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Jamiat Ahle Hadees Hind called on Shah at his residence and issued a statement later.
The home minister said the government was “ready to speak to all Muslim organisations with an open heart”.
According to the statement, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind General Secretary Mehmood Madani told Shah that they might have differences with the government on several issues but they are with it on all matters of national interest.
Earlier, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JuH) came out in support of the Centre's decision abrogating provisions of Article 370, saying Kashmir is an "integral part" of the country and the welfare of people in the valley lies in their integration with India. In the resolution passed in its annual general meeting held here, JuH rallied for a united India.
"It is our belief that the welfare of the people of Kashmir lies in getting integrated with India. The inimical forces and the neighbouring country are bent upon destroying Kashmir. The oppressed and beleaguered people of Kashmir are stuck between opposing forces," it said, without mentioning Article 370.
In an indirect reference to Pakistan, the resolution said that it was using Kashmiris as "shield".
"JuH stands steadfastly for the unity and integrity of the country and has accorded it paramount importance. As such it can never support any separatist movement rather it considers such movements not only harmful for India but also for the people of Kashmir," it said.
The final NRC list in Assam was released on August 31 with 19,06,657 of the total 3,30,27,661 applicants excluded and 3,11,22,004 included. The process of NRC Update was started in Assam following a Supreme Court order in 2013 and since then, the apex court had closely monitored the entire process. The process of receipt of NRC application forms started in May 2015 and ended on 31st August 2015. A total of 3,30,27,661 people applied through 68,37,660 application forms.
