New Delhi:

Well, whether it is New Year resolution or not, but then you should actually start working on your eating habits, as we all know that health is wealth. So let me tell you some good eating habits that you need to adopt for a healthy diet routine.

More cooking:

Homemade meals are definitely better than the processed foods as you know what all contents you have included in your meal while cooking.

If you think cooking is time consuming, well you can cook by taking less time if you learn simple methods, likewise how to cook a pot of beans or whole grains.

For inspiration, consider cookbooks and food blogs that embrace real-world "let's get dinner on the table" cooking with short ingredient list.

Consider the question- why you eat

Well the answer must be ‘I’m hungry’ according to you. But then sometimes you want to eat because of many other reasons like boredom, stress, loneliness. Whenever you find yourself mindlessly running after food, try to ask yourself, why you are eating and if you are really hungry. If ‘No’ then you need to step back if you want to adopt healthy habits.

Reduce the intake of added sugars

Natural sugars got from vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy products. Added sugars like white sugar are highly refined from their original source and add calories without providing any nutrients. And beverages are the ones that add extra calories with added sugars followed by desserts and snack foods.

Eat more plants

Adopting plant-based diet is very helpful as it will add nutrient-rich meals and reduce risk of heart-disease Type 2 diabetes, cancer and other chronic diseases. Try to eat more of vegetables, fruit, whole grains, beans and legumes.

But then you also need to note that vegetables are lower in calories than other foods.

Maintain a balance

Don’t be rigid to any particular eating plan. Be flexible and change your diet plan according to your nutritional needs and tastes.

Eat regularly and do not skip meals. Stay healthy.
