The American Heart Association (AHA) has released new guidelines related to hypertension. Now anyone with blood pressure (BP) higher than 130/80 will be considered to have hyper tension.
Blood Pressure (BP) of more than 120/80 will now be considered elevated. Stage 1 hyper tension will now be considered at 139/89. If reading is more than 140/ 90 you are suffering from Stage II of hyper tension.
Anyone with a BP level of more than 180/120 will be classified in hypertensive crisis with need for immediate treatment.
According to health experts it is still normal to have systolic BP reading of below 120 and a diastolic reading of below 80. By the previous benchmarks one in every three adults (32 per cent) in the United States (US) were diagnosed with hypertension.
With the revision in the standards it is estimated that almost 46 per cent of US population is suffering from hypertension.
The only remedy to this is change in lifestyle accordingto health experts. Reduced quantity of salt in food, intake of more fruites and whole grains coupled with exercises can keep High Blood pressure at bay.
