Harming one-self or self-injury have been misunderstood condition. This condition can happen to person of any age but people still have no idea of how to best support a friend or loved one who is suffering from this condition.
Self-injury is when a person deliberately harms his or her body surface in a way that is impulsive but not intended to cause death. It is an unhealthy way of coping with emotional stress, anger and frustration.
There is a need to spread awareness about it so that people have right understanding of it and it is not judged. It will also help in reducing the number of people who feel alone and suffer from this kind of silent behavior.
The most common reason why people suffer from this problem is anxiety, depression.
Age, life issues, excessive alcohol or drug abuse, having friends who self-injure, etc are some of the factors that contribute to the risk of self-injury.

It is important to let your close friend or any other person whom you can trust, know about your condition, that is, if you think about harming yourself. You must seek help from your doctor.
