British theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and scientist Stephen Hawking passed away in the early hours on Wednesday morning at his celestial house in Cambridge.
A statement released by the late scientist’s children, Lucy, Robert, and Tim, read, “We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years. His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world. He once said, 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.' We will miss him forever."
Born on January 8, 1942, Hawking’s life was an interesting ball of events until his passing away. His theories on Big Bang, black holes, how the world will end, and how humans must leave the Earth within 100 years in order to sustain their survival often made headlines and raised alarms.
Hawking, nicknamed ‘Einstein’, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, at an early age of 21, and the doctors had announced that he could live just for a few more years, but amazement was that he passed away at an exceptional age of 70.
Here are eight TV series that he was a part of:
1. Genius (TV Show- 2016)
Genius, which aired from May 18 to June 1, 2016, saw Hawking challenge volunteers to think harder and dwell on the most though-provoking questions of humanity. The episodes which were aired in this series comprised of six episodes, names, Can we travel time?, Are we alone?, Why are we here?, Where did the universe come from?, What are we?’ and Where are we?.
2. Brave New World with Stephen Hawking (TV Show- 2013-2014)
The show was based on 2011 science-based documentary converted into a mini-TV series and presented by professor Hawking, who examined science’s role in humankind’s next leap forward. The show, which had 14 episodes, was also released in a DVD format on October 16, 2012.
3. Stem Cell Universe with Stephen Hawking
In this TV show, professor Hawking explored the area of stem cells and their capabilities, including body-part regeneration and anti-aging effects.
4. Stephen Hawking’s Grand Design (TV Show-2012)
This mini TV series saw Hawking answer some of life’s compelling questions from his 40 years of research. The episodes comprised in the series were The key to Cosmos, Did God create the universe?, and The meaning of life.
5. Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking (TV Mini-series 2010-2012)
A 2010 science documentary television mini-series, Into the Universe, was written by Hawking and comprised of episodes titled Aliens, Time Travel, and The story of everything.
6. Stephen Hawking and the Theory of Everything (2009)
Hawking hosted this documentary series on the search for evidence to support his physics theory. Later, a movie of the same name was made which showcased the life and challenges of the renowned professor.
7. Master of the Universe (2008)
Known for his work in black holes, this documentary included notable personalities from the field. The first episode of the series showcased Hawking’s personal life, his challenges in overcoming his motor neuron disease, and his career in physics. The second episode shed light on his string theory and supersymmetry.
8. Stephen Hawking’s Universe (Mini-series-1997)
This 6-part documentary series included topics like Big Bang, origins of the universe, dark matter, black holes, among many. It also showcased interviews with leading astronomers, scientists, some commentary from professor Hawking, and many other things.
