Indian Women's ice hockey team on Thursday created history by winning its first-ever international match. In their second match of Challenge Cup of Asia held in Bangkok Indian ladies defeated the Philippines by 4-3.
The first period of the game remained goalless but India scored the first goal in the second period which ended with team India having a 1-0 lead.
The last period was of high intensity and both teams scored 3 goals each. But with the lead of 1 goal in the second period Indian women's won the match by 4-3.
Earlier in the tournament, Indian team lost to UAE by 4-6.
The win would boost confidence in Women’s ice hockey team as the sport in India is a much-neglected and the team went to the tournament without any financial help forthcoming from the government.
The team had to rely on more than 3000 donors who contributed in a crowdfunding platform for training, accommodation, airfares, visa, team jersey, and equipment.
