The Pro Kabaddi League is a professional sports league in India which came into being since 2014. The league was conceptualized and founded by Mashal Sports Company in 2014.
The Co-founder of the Pro Kabaddi is Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group. Since its inception, the league has caught the fancy of millions of Kabaddi enthusiasts across the length and breadth of the country.
The high voltage action packed league has garnered mass popularity across all quarters with the presence of cine stars, famous sportsmen as owners of franchises. Mashal Sports has acquired the rights to organise the league for a period of 10 years from International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) with an option to renew it further.
The first four seasons of the league had eight teams battling for honour and glory. However, the 5th season of the league shall become more competitive with 12 teams featuring in the season with four new franchises getting added.
Out of the eight franchises which have participated in the league over the last four seasons, there have only been three teams which have gone on to clinch the title. The Jaipur Pink Panthers had the distinction of becoming the champions in the inaugural season after they beat U Mumba in the summit clash.
Season 1 finalist U Mumba were crowned the champions in season 2 after they beat Bengaluru Bulls in a thrilling final encounter. Patna Pirates had a stellar run in season 3 and laid hands to the coveted trophy after defeating U Mumba in the finals. Patna Pirates defended their title in season 4 beating the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the finals. So, in a nutshell, Patna Pirates has been the most successful team in the PKL with two titles in their kitty. Meanwhile, U Mumba has made the maximum final appearances.
