Michael Phelps on Sunday won his 19th gold medal, powering US to win 4x100 relay at the Rio Olympics 2016.

America’s prime rival France managed to stay at number two position, while Australia settled at third place.

The gold medal is Phelps' 23rd medal: 19 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes.

Phelps swam the second leg for the Americans, taking over from Caeleb Dressel in second place behind France and swimming into the lead. His split time was a strong 47.12. Ryan Held and Nathan Adrian brought the U.S. home; Adrian’s split was an even better 46.97.

Under normal situation America’s 4x100 relay team is made up of men who finishes top in 100 free style swimming. This time Phelps didn’t take part in that competition but was placed in the relay team anyway.
