New Delhi:

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake stuck on Monday near the village of Sirch in the province of Kerman injuring at least 79 people in Iran, stated Iran’s state TV.

According to United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake’s magnitude was at 5.9.

The USGS says the earthquake was followed by many aftershocks and a 4.8 magnitude temblor to the northeast of the country following a series of quakes the day before the one which injured nearly 300 people.

Iran is extremely prone to regular earthquakes. Earlier in November, a magnitude 7.2 quake hit western Iran in November, killing more than 600 lives.
