Pakistani nationals are voting for the parliamentary seat NA-120 in Lahore, where ailing wife of ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is contesting on Sunday.
The seat is said to be stronghold of the Sharifs. The seat was vacant from July 28 after apex court disqualified Sharif in Panama Papers case. There are over 320,000 registered voters in the constituency.
The voting for the parliamentary seat started at 8am and will continue till 5 in the evening and the count to start soon after voting concludes and the polling process is being supervised by the Pakistan Army.
According to reports voting turnout in the morning was low but pace picked up in the afternoon. Many voters complained that voting time was taking time and many stated that their votes were not in the polling stations concerned.
Imran Khan had earlier asked the residents of NA-120 to cast their votes and give verdict against theNawaz Sharif.
However Sharif’s daughter Mayam Nawaz said, “Lahories will elect my mother, Behum Kulsoom Nawaaz and reject the court's decision against my father.
Kulsoom is undergoing throat cancer treatment in London.
