Madhya Pradesh Elections: 10 lakh jobs, farm loan waiver and more, key takeaways of BJP manifesto

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its manifesto for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. Named as “vision document”, the manifesto was released in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Dharmendra Pradhan.

Releasing the party manifesto, state BJP leader Vikram Verma said that the “vision document” was a roadmap of developed Madhya Pradesh in the next five years. He said the manifesto was prepared after taking feedback from people. The BJP has prepared a separate manifesto for women.

Speaking at the launch event of party’s manifesto, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, " there was a time when Madhya Pradesh used to be a "Bimaru" state. But in the last 15 years, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has done tremendous work for the development of the state and now no one can say Madhya Pradesh was once a "Bimaru" state."

Below are the key takeaways of BJP's manifesto for Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections 2018

Development of Narmada Expressway, Chambal Expressway and industrial corridor by 2023. Electricity production capacity will be increased to 14,000 megawatts. Price stabilisation fund increased to Rs 2,000 crore from Rs 500 crore so that farmers can get beneficial rates even if the market rates are down. BJP manifesto promises 10 lakh jobs per year for the youth of the state. Providing start-up opportunities to young entrepreneurs. Development of new industrial townships and will establish merchant welfare fund. Metro project and ‘Naljal’ scheme for drinking water in rural areas. Woman Power Resolution Note, a separate manifesto for women, promises women empowerment through self-help groups.

The elections for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly are scheduled to be held on 28 November 2018. The BJP is facing a stiff challenge at the hands of the Opposition Congress in the Assembly elections. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who has been ruling the state for the last 15 years, is battling with anti-incumbency and farmers' anger to retain power.
