Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch its popular hatchback in all-electric version in the Indian market by 2020. The all new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV is expected to cost under Rs 7 lakh once launched. This will include the subsidies proposed for all electric and hybrid under the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric) scheme.
Based on the current subsidy structure, Suzuki Wagon R EV could get a subsidy of around 1.24- 1.38 lakh, which may cost the all-new electric hatchback at around Rs 7.5 lakh.
However, the FAME 2 scheme will be implemented soon and the prices of Wagon R EV could vary from the current estimation.
The all-new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV is expected to be spacious and may have different styling as compared to the standard petrol-powered version. It is also expected to arrive with the latest infotainment touchscreen system with the updated user interface and smartphone connectivity options including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As per some reports, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV was expected to come at a price of Rs 10 lakh. It is also reported that the car will come with a fast charging technology and can charge the car’s battery to 80 per cent in around 40 minutes through DC fast chargers.
The Wagon R EV is also expected to give tough competition to Mahindra e20 but the Indian SUV automaker has decided to discontinue its popular electric car due to safety and crash norms.
Recently, Maruti Suzuki released the sale figure of its latest released third generation Wagon R which was highest in its segment. The Wagon R surpassed in-house Celerio and cars including Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro, and Renault KWID.
However, the sale has dropped for the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R in the month of January as compared sale numbers last year. In the month of January 2018, 14,182 units of Wagon R were sold as compared to the 10,048 units in January 2019.
