Asteroids pose greatest danger to the Earth and human life on it. Aren’t they? On August 28, at least two asteroids came dangerously close to the Earth. Luckily, both the space rocks flew past our planet. And now, another pair of asteroids will fly-by Earth within a 24-hour period, reported mashable.com. Yes, you read it right. Classified as Near-Earth Objects by NASA's Centre for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS), asteroid 2000 QW7 and asteroid 2010 CO1 will approach towards Earth on September 14, this year. Asteroids are said to be small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun. Asteroids can bring tsunamis, shock waves and flattening winds that could be catastrophic. The space rocks (asteroids) approach towards the Earth due to the gravitational forces that affect them. Recently, many giant asteroids including 2019 OK, 2019 OD, 2015 HM10, 2019 OE, 2019 NN3, 2019 MB4, 2019 MT2, 2006 QV89, 2016 NO56M, RF12 and others approached towards the Earth, fortunately did not hit our planet. It is said that Earth will reach to its end one day and one of the possible reason for this could be an asteroid. Well, asteroid 2000 QW7 and asteroid 2010 CO1 can be the reason behind our planet’s destruction.
Asteroid 2000 QW7 was first discovered by NASA on August 8, 2000. Asteroid 2000 QW7’s closest approach to Earth is expected to occur on September 14 around 23:54 UTC. And the last observation of the monster asteroid was made on August 20, 2019.
According to the NASA, the diameter of the asteroid 2000 QW7 be 2,132 feet (650m metres) and it will be passing Earth at a staggering speed of 14,338 mph. It is currently a 3,312,944 mile away from the Earth. Further, NASA estimated the threat level for this asteroid as moderate, so a hit is still possible but not likely this year.
Another asteroid to fly-by Earth on September 14 is 2010 CO1. The space rock is 260 metres wide and 120 metres long and is traveling at a staggering speed of about 51,696 kmph. Asteroid 2010 CO1 was first spotted on January 31, 2010. However, this asteroid has been classified by NASA as an Apollo Asteroid, as it is a Near-Earth Asteroid with very wide orbit with a perihelion distance less than 1.017 AU, and semi-major axis greater than 1 AU.
